| Description | The Sampit River, behind Front Street, was a beehive of activity when this photograph was taken for W. D. Morgan, Georgetown's mayor at the turn of the century. Stone, for the jetties at the mouth of the bay, are being loaded on barges, and lighters and crossties are stacked for rail shipment inland. The scope of the lumber and wood products industry that existed in 1900 can be seen on Goat Island in the background. (Near foot of Cleland Street.) |
