DescriptionThis view of Prince Street looks west across Screven Street at the Georgetown County Courthouse. The court- house was designed by Robert Mills, South Carolina's premier architect who also designed the Washington Monument, and is a stucco on brick with a gable roof. This ediface has a Texas-style Tuscan portico over rusticated basement flanked by arched openings. Double granite stairs in the basement of the portico leads to the courtroom upstairs. It was built in 1824 after severe damage to the original courthouse occurred during the great hurricane of 1822.
