Description
The Sampit River , behind Front Street , was a beehive of activity when this photograph was taken for W . D . Morgan , Georgetown's mayor at the turn of the century . Stone , for the jetties at the mouth of the bay , are being loaded on barges , and lighters and crossties are stacked for rail shipment inland . The scope of the lumber and wood products industry that existed in 1900 can be seen on Goat Island in the background . (Near foot of Cleland Street.)
