Benefactors
The Georgetown County Digital Library wishes to thank the following organizations for their past and continued funding and support:
Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation
The mission of the Donnelley Foundation is land conservation and artistic vitality for communities in the Chicago region and the Lowcountry of South Carolina. The foundation seeks to sustain communities by supporting long-term partnerships that bring together people from diverse backgrounds. The Donnelley Foundation has provided GCDL with a generous grant to fulfill this mission in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
Institute of Museum & Library Services
The Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS) strives "...to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas." IMLS works at the state and national levels to maintain heritage, culture and knowledge as well as to enhance learning and innovation.
Georgetown County Library
Founded in the late Eighteenth Century, the Georgetown County Library has seen over two hundred years of service to its community. Started by local rice planters and merchants, the library has moved into the Twenty-first Century by offering services to all of its residents, with four branches county-wide. In 2007, the library was awarded the National Medal for Museum and Library Services; one of only ten awarded in the country and the only library in South Carolina to receive the award.
